A Note from Duzi St. our Creative Partner

One of the most rewarding aspects of our role as a creative partner is the opportunity to immerse ourselves in worlds previously unfamiliar to us. Our collaboration with Ourika became exactly that; an exploration into centuries-old craft, enduring artistry, and the stories woven into every thread.

The earliest known rug, the Pazyryk carpet, dates back to around 500 BC. Civilisations have risen and fallen since its creation, yet the essence of rug making remains remarkably unchanged. It is an art form perfected through patience; a practice preserved not through reinvention, but reverence. That enduring sense of care, craftsmanship, and human touch is what makes these pieces so extraordinary.

It was this history that became the foundation of our creative approach when shaping Ourika’s brand world and visual identity. Because Ourika itself operates with the same spirit of devotion. Each piece is sourced through a process of discovery and discernment; a quiet pilgrimage in search of rugs with soul, rarity, and permanence. Under the careful eye of founder Katie, the collection is built not on trend or abundance, but on intuition, expertise, and respect for the artistry of the craft itself. The individuality of each Ourika product lives within its subtleties: the irregularities in weave, the softened patina of age, the imperfections that speak to a life already lived. Creating a visual identity for these works was never about replication, but homage. Not a pastiche of the past, but a framework through which this world could be thoughtfully discovered and understood.

With this distinction as our guiding principle, we began to create an identity that balances restraint with quiet confidence, positioning the brand as both curator and guide. This thinking is embodied within the brand emblem: a bespoke abstract compass symbolising both discovery and direction. More than a visual motif, it reflects Ourika’s role in navigating the world of antique rugs, while also speaking to Katie’s personal eye for exceptional, one-of-a-kind finds. The logotype continues this balance between past and present. Inspired by the sculptural elegance of ancient Roman inscriptional letterforms and paired with the clarity of modern geometric typography, it mirrors Ourika’s broader philosophy: honouring timeless craftsmanship through a contemporary lens.

This sense of considered balance extends throughout the wider visual language. An earthy, inky palette grounds the identity in warmth and depth, while subtle framing devices inspired by the forms found within the rugs, create a refined architectural structure across applications. This spirit continued into the art direction. Rather than presenting the rugs as isolated objects, they were captured as part of lived environments; spaces with texture, atmosphere, and quiet permanence.

Translating the identity into the digital world became an exercise in balancing tactility with clarity. An editorial sensibility runs throughout the site, with every detail given equal care. At times, more untraditional layouts are utilised to nod to the rarity and individuality of each piece. Clearer navigation, intuitive filtering, and dedicated collection pages create a seamless sense of discovery without losing the storytelling at the heart of the Ourika world.

Every detail of Ourika’s brand was developed in close collaboration with Katie, whose sensitivity and knowledge provided valuable insights at each stage. The result was a partnership that felt deeply aligned from the outset: thoughtful, intuitive, and led by a shared respect for the stories held within these pieces. Deeply connected to heritage and place, yet contemporary in execution. Welcome to the next chapter of Ourika.
